Timber course launched to champion sustainability skills
The Woodland to Workshop course aims to raise awareness of sustainable timber practices by educating participants from the forest through to the workshop
The New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering (NMITE) is partnering charity Woodland Heritage to deliver an interactive three-day course.
The Woodland to Workshop course will introduce participants to the entire process of the timber industry, from forestry management through sawmilling and timber drying, to the end user in the workshop.
The course, which will be held from 24 to 26 September, is supported by practitioners from the forestry and timber industries. Sessions will be based at the Duchy of Cornwall’s woodland, Whitney Sawmills, and the NMITE facility in Hereford.
The course is targeted at a broad audience, including built environment professionals.
Steve Bertasso, assistant professor at NMITE, said: “Timber and woodlands need to sit at the centre of sustainable solutions now and in the future. The built environment is the world’s largest producer and consumer of greenhouse gas emissions.
“Creating solutions through and from natural, renewable sources, like timber, produces fewer emissions than other building materials. The new partnership between Woodland Heritage and NMITE brings together the two ends of a circular building industry.”
