#PPEthatfits: the importance of inclusive PPE webinar
The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) is joining forces with NAWIC North West and NAWIC Yorkshire to highlight the impact of ill-fitting personal protective equipment (PPE)
The Importance of Inclusive PPE webinar will be held at 12-1pm (BST) on Thursday 30 May.
The virtual event will be free to attend and will feature insight from Katy Robinson, senior project manager at East Riding of Yorkshire Council and campaign manager for NAWIC Yorkshire.
Robinson is currently leading a PPE campaign to address widespread inequalities in PPE provision and design among minority groups across the construction industry, and beyond.
Last week (9 April), Robinson received the individual accolade in the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) category at the CIOB Awards 2024 for her contribution to the NAWIC Yorkshire campaign.
During the webinar, Robinson will discuss:
- The history of PPE and where the inequalities stem from
- Effects of ill-fitting PPE
- Progress so far
- How you can get involved
Non-compliant PPE
In this session, the British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF) will also discuss the key issues around non-compliant PPE and share details on the Registered Safety Supplier (RSS) scheme.
Companies displaying the scheme’s logo have signed a declaration that the safety equipment they offer meets appropriate standards, fully complies with PPE regulations and is appropriately CE marked.
#PPEthatfits
CIOB launched the #PPEthatfits campaign in 2023 to raise awareness of the lack of inclusive PPE in construction.
As part of the campaign, CIOB has established a dedicated website which includes a global directory for buyers looking to purchase inclusive PPE.
