Morgan Sindall adopts inclusive PPE with green credentials
Contractor is providing sustainable and inclusive PPE that aligns with its "ethos and business goals"
Morgan Sindall Construction is providing staff with environmentally-friendly PPE following a company-wide workwear upgrade in December 2023.
PPE manufacturer Pulsar supplied 1,400 of the company’s workers with garments made with recycled content. They include reversible puffer jackets, stretch combat trousers, insulated parkas, and breathable class 4 waterproof shell jackets and overtrousers, which Pulsar said conform to the EN ISO:20471 standard.
The manufacturer liaised with women’s working groups at Morgan Sindall to ensure the PPE design was fit for female professionals.
#PPEthatfits
Last year, CIOB, CIOB People and sister publication CM launched the #PPEthatfits campaign to address the lack of inclusive PPE in construction.
As part of the campaign, CIOB launched a directory which lists companies, including Pulsar, that currently provide inclusive PPE.
Martin Hall, safety, health and environment director at Morgan Sindall, said: “Since first adopting Pulsar high-vis clothing in 2017, Morgan Sindall Construction has confidently protected our teams from all weather and workplace hazards, whilst also seeing a reduction of replacement workwear products needed across the business.
“Feedback from our onsite professionals has been overwhelmingly positive, with our female team members particularly impressed by the comfort, functionality and overall sizing of the women’s combat trousers and shell jackets – a challenge the construction industry has faced for too long.
“The use of certified, environmentally responsible materials and high-performance components aligns perfectly with our ethos and business goals too, and is helping us to further reduce waste across our supply chain.”
Recycled materials
The workwear incorporates recycled polyester, recycled linings, trims and Bluesign-approved treatments.
Pulsar said that as a Global Recycled Standard-certified company, all the recycled content in its Life collection garments is independently verified at each stage of the supply chain, from source to final design.
