City Building unveils employee wellness room
New wellbeing room offers a "safe space" for staff across the business
City Building has marked World Mental Health Day (10 October) by launching a wellness room for its employees.
The facility aims to support mental wellbeing through the provision of a reading corner with self-help books, a yoga mat, a walking pad, a couch and chair for relaxation, and a speaker to provide music.
The room, which is located within City Building’s headquarters in the Springburn area of Glasgow, was built by the company’s apprentices.
Frank McCafferty, executive director at City Building, said the wellness room offers employees "a safe space to unwind and relax", particularly if they need to decompress amid a busy day.
“Should they require further support, there is information encouraging them to get in touch with colleagues who can help,” he added.
“What’s truly unique is that it was delivered by our apprentices, encouraging them to consider their own and others’ mental health needs and hopefully forging a special connection with the wellness room.”
The room’s soft furnishings were created by RSBi, City Building’s manufacturing arm. More than half of RSBi’s 250 staff have a disability or are disadvantaged.
The RSBi factory includes a purpose-built learning centre to encourage lifelong learning in skills ranging from literacy and numeracy to passing a driving test.
