CIOB joins Pride in London celebrations
Six built environment bodies joined forces to demonstrate a collective commitment to ‘Pride in the built environment’
The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) officially joined the Pride in London parade for the first time ever.
A group of around 40 people, including CIOB employees, members and employees from CIOB company members, participated in the parade across the capital.
CIOB joined five other built environment bodies – RICS, RIBA, RTPI, ICE and the Landscape Institute – to celebrate ‘Pride in the built environment’.
The annual parade celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and encourages equality, diversity and inclusion.
This year’s event featured the #WeAreEverywhere campaign, which aims to shine a light on the presence of London’s LGBTQ+ community.
Commenting on LinkedIn, Mark Harrison, head of EDI transformation at CIOB, said: “A properly excellent day with members and colleagues of the CIOB joining the London Pride Parade for the first time.
"A great day of solidarity and celebration demonstrating our collective commitment to #Prideinthebuiltenvironment.”
According to its Royal Charter, the CIOB’s sole purpose is to “promote the science and practice of building and construction—“. It was not set up to promote politically controversial issues such as LBGTQ or EDI issues, however well meaning the intent. Having been a member for more than 50 years, I fear the CIOB is losing its sense of purpose under its present management, as the tragic failings at Grenfell Tower symbolise.
