British Antarctic Survey seeks new talent
Skilled candidates, from carpenters to plant operators, are promised a "fantastic experience" in Antarctica
The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is looking for skilled recruits to work at its research stations in Antarctica.
A range of roles, including carpenters, electricians, plumbers, plant operators and plant mechanics, are currently available.
As part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), the BAS is renowned for polar research and operations, with its work highlighting the challenges facing the frozen environment and the broader impact on the planet.
Richard Howard, HR business partner at the BAS, said: “We have world-class laboratories, accommodation buildings, offices and technical facilities at our five scientific research stations in Antarctica.
“We need the best people to keep everything running smoothly and to provide top quality support to our science and logistics programme. The chance to work on the ice surrounded by stunning scenery, icebergs, penguins, whales and seals will be a fantastic experience.”
Employment contracts run from six to 18 months, with a starting salary of £27,879 per annum. All living expenses are covered, including accommodation, food, travel, specialist clothing, tools and training.
An additional allowance is also paid if significant training is needed at the BAS head office in Cambridge before deployment in Antarctica.
For more information, visit the BAS website. The application deadline is 31 March.
