Bricklaying event launched to showcase construction talent
The inaugural Masonry Mentors 2025 event aims to help address bricklaying skills shortages
Building products supplier Grayson is partnering with Hertfordshire-based Oaklands College to launch a bricklaying skills event.
Designed to inspire and develop the next generation of construction talent, Masonry Mentors 2025 will take place on 10 February, to coincide with National Apprenticeship Week.
The pilot event will pair full-time students with experienced bricklayer mentors. Teams will participate in a six-hour challenge, with each member expected to complete 50% of the task.
Competitors will then answer a series of trade-related questions, testing both their practical and theoretical knowledge.
Kevin Jagg, Grayson’s operations director, said: “[The Masonry Mentors event] not only showcases the incredible talent within our industry but also highlights the importance of mentorship and partnership in shaping the future of bricklaying.
“Ensuring vital skills and knowledge are passed on to the next generation, events like this are crucial in addressing the skills shortage and building a strong, sustainable future for the construction sector.”
